These are guides and notes that Sylore found in various forum posts, which he found quite helpful for raising his cooking skill.
0-4 Carrot Broth - You'll lose a little bit of money on this one. 4-11 Sliced Sardines - Get Adv. synthesis and craft on Windsday/Lightsday for your first couple levels in this item. Expect some breaks early on. Depending on who's cheaper, get these at the AH or the fishing guild. You'll prolly break even on this one, maybe lose a little money. If you can, sell to the fishing guild, as they'll pay more for the items. 11-19 Pet Food Beta - Buy the Sheep Meat at the AH, bird eggs at the cooking guild, and distilled water at the rarab hotel place right by the cooking guild. Also, Horo flour doesn't stack, and isn't available at the guild (you have to get this from the goblin shop in Jeuno, or a regional vendor). The best way is to buy some with a mule if it's in another city from Windurst, and camp him at the delivery, and transfer items 8 at a time. Use 'em, send more, repeat. If it's in Windurst, buy 12 from the vendor, then go to the cooking guild for support and such. Get Adv. synthesis and craft on Earthsday/Lightsday for your first couple levels in this item. Expect some breaks early on as well. 14 or 15 should be ok to do on another day. You'll probably lose some money on the first few levels of this due to breaks, but by the time you hit 19, you'll be in the positive, as this makes money by crafting/selling to NPCs. 19-20 Selbina Butter - Save the butter for later. 20-29 Pet Food Gamma - Buy the Dhalmel Meat at the AH, see Pet Food Beta for details on bird eggs, horo flour, and distilled water. Again, you'll lose money early on due to breaks, but you'll make it back in the end. Early on, try only crafting on Earthsday/Lightsday with Adv. Synthesis Support. You should also be getting a feel as to when you can stop crafting only on Earthsday/Lightsday w/Support at this point. You'll profit in the end leveling up on this. 29-39 Pet Food Detla - Buy the Crab Meat at the AH, the flour changes now to Rye flour, which you can get at the Cooking Guild. This makes this pet food MUCH more convienient to craft. Buy bird eggs and water from the usual, and do the earth/lightsday thing with support as usual for the early levels. You'll profit in the end leveling up on this as well. 39-40 Pie Dough - Use your butter from earlier on the pie dough. Personally, I just got the San d'Orian flour at the cooking guild for convienence, even though it's usually a little cheaper at the regional vendor. Same with rock salts. Save the pie dough. If you need more butter, get it at the AH in stacks. 40-46 Pickled Herring - Buy the Herring at the AH, usually about 3k - 3.5k a stack. I just bought the Dried Marjoram at the Cooking Guild -- dunno if regional vendors sell it or not, but its cheap at the guild, and you make money on leveling this, so I didn't bother with looking. Craft with support and/or certain days as you feel comfortable. You should know your limits by now. Sell them to the Cooking Guild, as they'll pay more than regular vendors on this item, usually. 46-50 Apple Pies (bird egg recipe) - Sometimes cinnamon is cheaper at the AH than from the regional vendor. If its more than 3k/stack at the AH, buy from regional vendor. Sometimes its 250ea. at the guild - about the same price as vendor, making it a little more convienent. Use your pie dough saved from earlier, buy bird eggs at the guild. Buy maple sugar at the AH for between 600-900/stack usually, and after you run out of pie doughs, you can either make more yourself and save a very little amount of money, or buy 'em from the AH for 600/stack. 50+ is a little harder: 50-53 Eel Kabob - Finding the black eels for this is a pain, but its the only thing you can make/vendor off and come out even, if you buy the eels for about 7k/stack. Sell them to the Cooking Guild, as they'll pay more than regular vendors on this item, usually. If you don't want to do eel kabobs (as finding the eels is hard), you can probably make mulsum earlier on, but you'll break more often, and lose more $$, as mulsum is fairly expensive. 50/53-56 Mulsum - Buy the grape juice from the AH for 500-600 each, or make your own for about 500-600 each. Buy honey from the AH, and you know where to get Distilled Water. You can sell Mulsum in the AH to break even, maybe make a little $$ -- Jeuno usually is the fastest mover on this item. 56-60 Yagudo Drink - I won't go into details on this yet, as I'm not actually to this point yet, but in theory, I imagine you can slowly level on this and sell 'em in your bazaar/AH and make a little money. You should be able to figure out where to get the materials at the best price at this point. 60-64 Melon Pies (bird egg recipe) - See Yagudo Drink for more info.
