1) Get/Install Dungeon Siege - The first thing you need to do before you start Lazarus is buy/find and install Dungeon Siege , or Dugeon Siege: Legends of Aranna (NOT Dungeon Siege II).
- If you buy/own the original Dungeon Siege without the Legends of Aranna expansion, you will also need to download and install this patch: Version 1.0 to version 1.11.1462
2) Download and install Ultima V: Lazarus - You can download Lazarus here , and you should install it in its own folder.
3) Download and install Lazarus Bugfixes - You can get the bugfix package from the download section of this site, or from here. The fixes are discussed in the documentation included in the zip file, as well as this forum post.
- Unzip the files and place them in your Lazarus\resources folder (resources folder where you installed Lazarus)
- You are now ready to start the game!
What next? Install Optional mods There are several optional "mods" that have been created that greatly enhance the game in a variety of ways. I have written a complete guide to mods that lists them all, but here are a few I absolutely reccommend: Quick Pocketwatch - allows you to use the "j" key to open your pocketwatch. There are some other "Comfortability mods" listed and discussed on the forum . New Spell Scroll Icons - replaces the generic spell scroll icon with unique icons for each type of spell scroll. You may also prefer New Spell Scroll Icons and Names , which also gives scrolls common spell names (example: "Vas Rel Por (Gate Travel)" instead of "'Vas Rel Por' Scroll"). - If you have already started the game, you will also need the Chuckles Scroll Changer mod to exchange your old scrolls with new ones.
Grail Quest's Mods CAUTION: Some of the mods in this collection are a bit outdated, and I would use caution when selecting them. ONLY UNZIP THE FILES YOU WANT TO USE. Two mods that I know for sure are problematic are: - Spell Scrolls Show Spell names. - this will override the spell scroll bug fixes (from the bug fix package) and not all scrolls will not work properly.
- Weapons.dsres - not compatible with the weapon fixes in the bug fix package
Otherwise there are some great mods in this collection. I am using several, but my favorites are "Reagent Sources Highlighted", "Spiders drop More Silk", and "Insect swarms easier to spot"
Increase Encumbrance by Level - your party members can carry more weight as they level up This is not a complete list. These are just some of the mods I used, that I wouldn't want to do without. For more information about mods, the forum has a ton of information, or you can browse through my mod guide which lists the mods with a breif description of each. Visit the Forum In case I haven't stated this enough, the Forum has a lot of great information. Drop in and visit!
